VOSS.ART – Since 2020
In late 2019, Thorben Voss began exploring the .gltf file format and the WebGL JavaScript API during his time at Fraunhofer IOSB. What started as a simple spinning triangle on a personal homepage soon evolved - by Christmas, the first version of the 3D racing game Froschidrive was released. Encouraged by early success, Thorben aimed to transform the experimental prototype into a reusable game engine. The project took academic shape in the Game Development and Graphics Programming Lab at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), providing both technical depth and university credits (see report). As the original version became increasingly heavy, a new version focused on performance and clarity emerged: the lightweight Mirage Engine, developed during the pandemic. VOSS.ART was founded to demonstrate the engine’s flexibility and to share insights gained from years of work in browser-based game development, interactive web design, and AI-powered creative tools.
